Herborigen: A Global Journey of Eastern Herbs, Starting with a Single Capsule

Before Herborigen was born, I had been pondering a question: Why is there always an invisible chasm separating the ginger, goji berries, astragalus, solomon’s seal, jujubes, and ginseng found in Eastern kitchens from the capsules, tablets, and powders in Western medicine cabinets? Don’t we all live on the same planet? Does the land beneath our feet truly become a different world simply because of differences in longitude and latitude?
China’s herbal wisdom has been passed down for five thousand years. From the legend of Shennong tasting hundreds of herbs to Li Shizhen’s *Compendium of Materia Medica*, compiled after traversing mountains, rivers, and seas, the Chinese have always believed that the best pharmacy lies within nature itself. Thus, generations of descendants have carried on their ancestors’ legacy, diligently using herbs to heal and save lives. After the 20th century, on the other side of the world, with the rise of modern nutritional science, these ancient roots, stems, leaves, and flowers were purified, quantified, and packaged into standardized bottles and jars—yet they often lost their original names and warmth.
Thus, Herborigen was born. Its name is a fusion of “Herb” and “Origen” (French for “origin”). We were born in China, yet we do not wish to be merely a “mysterious Eastern brand.” Our ambition is to serve as a bridge—to become the 21st-century equivalent of the *Compendium of Materia Medica*.

Over the past 20 years, the global health food market has expanded at an unprecedented pace. Have they been tested for contamination? Does the extraction process preserve bioactive compounds? Does the bottling process meet standards? Are shipping conditions compliant?
Second, a cultural disconnect. Western consumers are fascinated by “goji berries” and “reishi mushrooms,” yet few understand the wisdom behind their combinations in traditional Chinese medicine—how to blend them for gentle nourishment rather than haphazardly piling ingredients together. “Treating the root cause” is the key to resolving health issues, not simply adding everything under the sun, which ultimately achieves nothing.
Third, the lack of variety in formats. Capsules (the mainstream) have virtually dominated the market. But true herbal nourishment should be multidimensional—from internal regulation to external moisturization, and further to external support. In other words, beyond simply consuming and applying these products, we must also take an active role in self-regulation—restoring our own immune function—so that ultimately, we can achieve our optimal state without relying on any medication or external aids.

We reject “conceptual additives” and adhere to traditional herbal formulation wisdom while incorporating gentle modern extraction techniques. Every herbal supplement you receive is not just a list of ingredients, but a traceable origin record. We want to tell the world: Eastern herbs are, first and foremost, safe and clean—and only then effective.
Step Two: Topical Care · Nourishing the Skin (Our Next Destination)
When the body’s internal environment is balanced, the skin naturally responds. In our future plans, Herborigen will apply the same traceability standards to skincare. Moving forward, we will explore the integration of traditional meridian wisdom with modern auxiliary tools, including various beauty devices, hair care tools, massage tools, and therapeutic instruments. This is not to replace anything, but to help modern people in their busy urban lives more easily perceive the body’s rhythms.
